Team & Partners
team members, project partners and strategic alliances
AI work in a newsroom rarely sits with one person. This card looks at who is involved: staff, freelancers, outside vendors, and partner organizations that shape how AI gets used. A team pauses here to map who is in the room and who is missing.
Questions to explore
- Who in the newsroom is actually responsible for choosing and using AI tools today?
- Which outside vendors or partners shape the AI you rely on, and how much do you know about them?
- How do you decide when to build something in-house versus working with an external partner?
- What skills or perspectives are missing from the people currently making AI decisions?
- How are freelancers and contributors included in the rules you set for AI use?
Expert voices
“Is it worth having a separate AI team in a media organization? Decide who should be on it and which functions it covers.”
“Co-create with experts: it strengthens both the content and the community, and expert involvement improves adoption and reach.”
Things to consider
- List both internal people and external partners before deciding who owns each AI decision.
- A partner who controls a tool also shapes what you can and cannot do with it.
- The people closest to the daily work often see risks that leadership does not.
